The Inclusive Employer: Mark Wafer
In honour of National AccessAbility Week 2019 (NAAW), The Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Horizon Achievement Centre and reachAbility Association - are thrilled to present this unique opportunity to discover the benefits, importance and ease of inclusion from business professional, industry leader in accessibility and internationally renowned human rights advocate - Mark Wafer.
During his 25 years as a business owner, Mark and his wife Valerie owned and operated a large number of Tim Hortons franchises in the greater Toronto area, employing hundreds of workers with disabilities in meaningful and competitively paid positions.
As a disability rights activist and policy change instigator, Mark believes there is a clear and compelling business case for real inclusion in our workforce. He is passionate about sharing his expertise and spreading the significance of a comprehensive and diverse labour market.
Mark is a member of the Federal government's panel on labour market initiatives for Canadians with disabilities, helped create Canada's national strategy on disability employment, and co-founded Canadian Business SenseAbility.
Mark is also a recipient of Canada's Meritorious Service Cross, the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship and was inducted into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame in 2014.
